September 6, 2009: Grass-Roots Organizations in Butler County Demonstrate Support for Health Care Reform
Not everyone in Butler County is anti-Obama and anti-health care reform. On Saturday, September 6 several
organizations held two events that explained the need, and demonstrated public support, for health care
reform. Representative photos from those events are attached.
Several grass roots organizations held a press conference at noon at the West Chester Library - 1) Change
Butler PAC, 2) Butler County Progressive PAC, 3) Hamilton-Fairfield Democratic Alliance, and 4) Organizing
for America. The press conference was calm and factual. Five speakers--including private citizens, a small
business owner, and a physician--told their painful experiences with the current health care system and
explained their reasons for supporting the kind of health care reform that President Barack Obama is
promoting. The meeting room at the West Chester Library overflowed with supporters.
After the press conference, volunteers went to nearby intersections and had a “Honk and Wave” For most of
the afternoon more than volunteers had a steady stream of drivers acknowledging their agreement for the need
for health care reform.
Jocelyn Bucaro, President of Change Butler said that the factual information presented at the news conference
and positive reception received at the Honk and Wave clearly demonstrates that many citizens support health
care reform.
